Sacred Heart School ($500)

 

The Sacred Heart School is requesting funding to support the rental of a sound system for their annual spring play. This production is part of their fine arts program that is open to students in grades 4 through 8. The students’ involvement in this activity promotes creativity, confidence and teamwork.

 

Resurrection Catholic School ($500)

 

The Resurrection Catholic School is requesting funding to purchase some musical instruments to including traditional Italian type such as a mandolin. Students will learn to play a simple Italian piece. The school will have a concert later in the year.

 

Columbia School District ($640)

 

The Columbia Borough School District is working to increase student engagement in its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program. Student learning of the 5th grade STEM curriculum will be supported with hands-on activities through the use of Lego Education SPIKE Essential Sets, which including bricks, motors, and sensors.  The learning activities will provide students with an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills in a meaningful way as they plan improvements to community infrastructure while exploring transportation, communication, and public services. Funding from the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society would assist the district in the purchase of these sets for their 5th grade STEM class. The funding request is for $640. Approximately sixty students in grade 5 will receive STEM instruction during the 2024-25 school year. 

 

School District of Lancaster ( $500)

 

This grant is to support transportation for a field trip to The Philadelphia Museum of Art for J. P. McCaskey students enrolled in an International Baccalaureate Advanced Placement or a Drawing and Painting class.  The vision of the field trip is for approximately forty students to discover the rich and vibrant works on display at the museum. For many of these students, this will be the first time for them to visit a major art museum. The Philadelphia Museum has a deep and wide-ranging body of work. The students will visit and discuss artwork from the Renaissance period.  It is within this body of art, the Italian influence helped form the foundation of western art.  Students will focus on the illusion of depth (perspective) and the development of correct realistic proportion. 

 

The funding request is for $500. The School District will be covering any additional costs, such as admission, food, and substitute coverage for the day. 

 

County, Young Artist Italian Awards ($100)

 

The grant is for $100.00 for four $25 art awards to students in grades 7 to 12 for their accepted artwork submissions to the Lancaster County Young Artists competition and exhibition. These four awards are named after four famous Italian artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Amedeo Modigliani, and Artemesia Gentileschi. Ann DeLaurentis will coordinate this grant that has been provided each year that grants have been awarded by LICS. 

 

Penn  Manor School District ( $260)

 

The Penn Manor School District’s is requesting funding to support a field trip for sixth grade students to Ellis Island in the Spring of 2025. This field trip will allow students to explore the rich history of immigration and the diverse stories that shaped our nation.
